Wood Duck

I wish I could have gotten this close to the Surf Scoters last Saturday!
This beautiful male Wood Duck is actually a captive bird that I photographed last Autumn at the Forestry Farm Park.
Unfortunately I did not see any wild one's this year, but at least this photo is finally getting published :-)

Who can resist a wood duck? Not me, I've tried to get close for years, still waiting...Anyway, beautiful shot! the irridescent colors are amazing! The composition is perfect!

Glad you liked him. I don't think there is a more striking looking duck in North America :-)

Captive or not this is a great shot, I know how skittish wild wood ducks are, I've never photographed one. Congrats on getting this picture published.

Beautiful picture. The first time my husband saw some of these ducks he laughed, and called them "Darth Vader ducks" because of the crest like a black helmet. Now I always think of that when I see them.
It's great to be able to show our kids the water birds at the zoo, up close.
