This morning it was very cold and there was hoarfrost everywhere. I went for a short walk around the neighbourhood and found a big group of about 10 Blue Jays , all being very vocal.
The same area had 2 Yellow-shafted Northern Flickers , a few House Finch, a Hairy Woodpecker and 4 Black-billed Magpies.
Here's one of the Blue Jays :

Beautiful Nick!
The hoar frost gives the image a chill.
I think he puffed up his beautiful chest cuz he knew you were going to take a photo of him! :)
...beautiful...the sky-blue crest and the frosty branches are eye catching.
Thanks guys. I only wish I could have recorded the sounds all the Blue Jays were making .
I've heard them many times before, but this was incredible, like a really loud conversation...
Great shot.
Blessings,Ruth
How beautiful, that tuft of blue in the frost.
I think they were all shouting about the hoar frost and their cold feet. Nice photograph.
Stunning images of our feathered friends on this blog! I've never met a jay that is silent! LOL
Many thanks everyone. The Blue Jay wasn't the shot I'd envisioned, but I put in on here anyway :-)
I get bluejays at my feeder every day but the y don't come around while I'm out there photographing. I'm going to have to set up a blind so I can get some shots of the shyer and more cautious birds.
Lovely!
What a delightful picture! He seems to be checking you out..giving you his best side, maybe!!
A stunning shot. I love the atmosphere that the hoar frost gives to the photograph.
Great shot Nick.
Certainly looks cold.
Great Images! Keep it up
Many thanks everyone.
Beautiful image. The bird blends into the background and if not for its blue feathers it would be difficult to spot.
Beautiful..a one of a kind shot my friend!
