River Otters

While enjoying a relaxing break recently with some friends at Anglin Lake SK, we found 2 River Otters, diving and catching crayfish in some open water.
I was very careful not to spook these wonderful creatures and kept my distance but stayed low , and got the following shots of one individual with his meal :

...this fellow is adorable. I love those teeth and his funny expression. I would love to see an otter in the wild some day.

I'm catching up and just saw your Hawk Owl photos. They are exquisite. The second photo is just amazing... I don't know how you do it--quick reflexes and a steady hand I'm sure!

Beautiful animals Nick, and beautifully captured.
Like Kelly, I love that expression in the last one.

Hi Nick,
This is a fantastic set of pictures and nice that it did not go away. I love the whole set of pictures but I have to admit that the last one is my favorite... So beautiful!

Oh wow! You captured him well! Loved I could see a claw, and the adorable pose on that last one!

I like these photos very much. I have never seen these animals in my area. I have only seen screech owls and them only once.

A great encounter. I helped release some of these into the wild in 2002 when I was working for the Pennsylvania Game Commission, but have not seen any since. I really enjoyed this series.

Magnificent captures! Look angry in the first few, but back to cute again in the last couple. Nice job! ~ks

I didn't know we had river otters in Saskatchewan. Neat! I'm sure I would have thought they were beavers (bad eyesight)!
